During your treatment, you’re meant to wear your aligners for 22 hours a day. When you have the time to eat, you still want to look after your teeth in the best way possible. Because of this, you may want to avoid some of these foods, as they could stain your teeth as well as your aligners. Keep reading for our advice.
A popular ingredient loved by many, soy sauce can unfortunately stain your teeth. First of all, being dark in nature is not the best for your teeth, but the high concentration of it does not do you any favours. We’d recommend not using it too much, but that may be a good thing considering how much sodium soy sauce can have! Try to find a lighter alternative in your next stir fry.
This fruit is very good for you in small doses, but you have to be extremely careful, as it’s dark colour can easily stain your teeth. Our advice would be to wash out your mouth with water after eating a few blueberries. You’ll still get all the flavour and nutrition from them, but a much lower chance of staining.
A delicious cold treat than can also stain your teeth. Because of the artificial colouring and syrup in them, ice pops can easily stain the inside of your mouth. We don’t really have any tips on avoiding this, so maybe have ice cream instead?
Ah, the delicious caffeinated drink is sadly not great for those pearly-whites. More-so, black coffee has the greatest chance of staining your teeth. We would recommend adding some milk to it, making the drink lighter and better for your teeth—especially with the added calcium!
We’re doing you a favour here, trust us! Sugary drinks like Coke, Pepsi etc. can easily stain teeth for being very dark. We would say that you avoid most fizzy drinks, especially since the sugar is bad for you anyway. If you need to get your fix, drink clear ones like 7Up and Sprite.
